Home Tour :: Dining Table

I like to make little arrangements on my dining table and switch them up once in awhile. For Valentine's Day I had decorated in a vintage romantic style (You can see the original post here). A few weeks ago a changed it all around and styled my table in a slightly more rustic style with a vintage tri-fold vanity mirror, blue-green bottles, a brass incense holder, a deer antler, and an Aztec print blanket for a table covering. Everything shown here are things I found at thrift stores.

How to Decorate Your Car

I started decorating my car a few months ago. I'm doing a little at a time and it is still a work in progress, but this is what I've done so far. Here are a few ideas on how to make your car a little home away from home.

1. Hang small items from the rear view mirror
Make it personal by finding little things to represent something you love. You could use charms or pendants, silk flowers, feathers, miniature stuffed animals, or other small objects. I put a dreamcatcher and a beaded cross necklace around mine.

Some states don't allow you to hang things on the rear view mirror, so make sure you check your state's laws. In PA, you can't hang anything that will "obstruct, obscure or impair the driver's vision through the front windshield or any manner as to constitute a safety hazard (Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, Title 75, section 4524c)."

2. Add a steering wheel cover
A steering wheel cover is a must-have for me because they help control the temperature of the wheel so it's not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. They're also an inexpensive way to add a little style to your interior. I found this velvet one for just a few dollars on eBay.

3. Utilize your cup holder
I have a very short commute to work and I very rarely have drinks in my car, so since my cup holders are usually empty, I thought I'd try to find something to fill them with. I've found a lot of inspiration from searching the internet, and I like the idea of having plants in the car (See here and here). I found a small flower pot that fits perfectly into my cup holder, and now I have to find a plant that can survive in the car for more than just a few days. Because of the extreme change in temperature throughout the day, this is probably impossible. (My cactus didn't even last!!). So I guess my only options are to leave it in the car for only a few hours at a time, or just buy a fake plant. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!

4. Make seat covers
Instead of buying seat covers, which can get a little expensive, try making them yourself out of blankets, sheets, or other scraps of fabric. I found a large rectangular piece of faux fur fabric at a thrift store, cut it in half, and draped it over my front seats.

For the back seat, try layering a printed blanket with a lace or crochet blanket on top.

Other ideas:
6. Cover the roof of your interior with lace or printed fabric.
7. Add an air freshener. I like to use a different scent for each season. My favorite air fresheners from Yankee Candle are Lavender Vanilla for Spring, Sun & Sand for Summer, Autumn Wreath for Fall, and Mountain Pine for Winter.
8. Paint a design on your dashboard and other hard surfaces.
9. Decorate your seat belts with seat belt covers, or if you have more time, try studs, beading, or embroidery.
10. Hang tassels or short fringe around the top edge of your interior.

After experimenting with posting everyday, I think it's proved too much for just one person to handle. Having a full-time job and being a full-time blogger is going to drive me crazy! So from now on, I will be posting three days a week instead of five. This will be my new posting schedule: On Mondays I will being doing My Style posts. Every other Wednesday will be either a How To or a Steal the Runway post. And Fridays will be Inspiration posts and a Blogger Outfits of the Month post on the last Friday of the month.
See you Wednesday!
